The key points first

This website does not use any analytics or advertising services and does not set any cookies itself. Fonts, images, videos and sounds are hosted on our own server. The only exception is the Google reCAPTCHA spam protection in the contact form. It is only loaded if you expressly allow it in the cookie dialog or on the form.

Local storage

If you change something in the gimmick menu (pixel skull, sound) or leave the menu open, we remember this in your browser's local storage (entry "bytebones-einstellungen"). The entry contains only these settings, does not leave your device and is permitted without consent under § 25 (2) No. 2 TDDDG. If you reset everything and close the menu, the entry is deleted.

On your first visit, a small dialog asks whether we may load the spam protection in the contact form. We store your answer, whether given in the dialog or directly on the form, in local storage (entry "bytebones-einwilligung", only your choice and the time). This is permitted without consent under § 25 (2) No. 2 TDDDG, because otherwise we could not remember your decision. After twelve months we ask again. You can change your choice at any time via the cookie at the bottom of every page or via "Cookie settings" in the footer.

Hosting and server logs

The website is hosted on a server in Germany that we manage ourselves. The data center operator is IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, with which a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place.

Each time the site is accessed, the web server stores technically necessary information in log files: IP address, date and time, the address accessed, amount of data transferred, status code, referring page, and browser and operating system. This serves the secure and stable operation of the site, for example defending against attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. The logs are rotated weekly and deleted after five weeks at the latest, unless they are needed to investigate a security incident.

Contact by email, phone or WhatsApp

If you write to us or call us, we process your information in order to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if your request concerns a contract or an inquiry about one, otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. We delete the information as soon as your request has been dealt with and no statutory retention periods prevent deletion.

The WhatsApp button is a simple link. Only when you click it does WhatsApp open, a service of WhatsApp Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland (part of Meta). If you write to us there, WhatsApp processes your phone number, your messages and metadata under its own terms, including in the USA. WhatsApp is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We use the message only to reply to you. If you don't want this, please use phone, email or the contact form instead. More information: WhatsApp privacy policy.

Contact form

If you write to us via the contact form, you send us the information you enter there: first and last name, email address, optionally company and phone number, the packages you selected and your message. We send this information as an email to our mailbox hallo@bytebones.de and use it exclusively to answer your inquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if your inquiry concerns a contract or an inquiry about one, otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

To protect against misuse, the server stores an irreversible check value (hash) of your IP address in order to prevent too many requests within a short time. This value is deleted after 24 hours at the latest. We delete your inquiry as soon as it has been dealt with and no statutory retention periods prevent deletion.

Spam protection with Google reCAPTCHA

To prevent the contact form from being misused by automated programs, we may use Google reCAPTCHA, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. reCAPTCHA is only loaded if you accept it in the cookie dialog or enable it on the form with "Allow spam protection", and even then only once you click into the form. Without your permission the form still works; in that case we protect it with our own means.

First, the invisible version (reCAPTCHA v3) runs. It evaluates information such as your IP address, browser and device information, the time spent on the page and mouse movements, and may set cookies. From this, Google determines a score indicating how likely it is that you are a human. We receive only this score. If it is too low, we additionally show the "I'm not a robot" checkbox (reCAPTCHA v2), which processes similar information. In the process, data may be transferred to the USA. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG, which you can withdraw at any time via the cookie, "Cookie settings" in the footer, or on the form. More information: Google privacy policy.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). To exercise these rights, please contact us at the address given above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen), Kavalleriestr. 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf.
